A Precious Little Film|Blue Jay|Eu4ic Entertainments.

Oscar fever all around. The 89th Academy Awards. La La land winning big, Moonlight winning hearts and Cassey Affleck’s heart wrenching performance in Manchester By The Sea.

They all might be pretty decent films. But this is not about the oscars. This is about the black horse. This is about films which don’t get the required buzz.

Among all the mainstream films & indie films which released last year. There is a gem of a film that i’ve come across recently, titled “Blue Jay”. It’s got a limited release.

It has been screened at select festivals.

But its the content which has a unique flavour.

“Blue Jay” is inspiring in more ways than one. It has 2 characters. It’s shot in black & white. It has mostly improvised dialogues by the actors. The director is the DOP. The male lead has written the script & produced the film. There are just about a few locations, most of it is filmed in a house & above all its shot over a span of 7 days.blue-jay

There are movies which rely heavy on VFX, have a solid star cast, have the big guns backing the film & they also end up earning the bucks as well!

But they lose out on the most important yet the basic aspect- screenplay.

We’ve seen films which churn out similar stories, yet there is one which stands out. Yet there is one you connect to. Yet there is one which has a creative way of narrating it.

The way you tell you’re story is what matters at the end of the day. You may not have the big budget or the stellar cast, but what you have is a story, and its important that you tell it.

“Blue Jay” is exactly that. It may have a plot line which is similar to what you have seen or heard before. But it’s the narration & the execution is what stands out.

Its lead pair’s soulful  performance which is brilliant. The way it poetically unfolds is what keeps this masterpiece different from the rest.

This film is not only a must watch for the audience, but also for aspiring filmmakers.

Films can be shot in limited locations, minuscule budgets & with a few actors. What’s more it can also be watched by a million subscribers on a digital platform.

So try something unique, do something different, watch something new & start your week fresh.

Watch “Blue Jay”.

& yes it’s on Netflix!

Kahaani 2:& the thrill continues.. |Review |Eu4ic Entertainments

Film:Kahaani 2:Durga Rani Singh

Cast:Vidya Balan, Arjun Rampal & Jugal Hansraj.

He started his career as director with the evergreen musical romantic “Jhankaar Beats”. Didn’t quite hit the right notes with his second and third film. He bounced back in 2012 with the thriller “Kahaani”, which turned out to be a major money spinner.

After 4 years he’s back with the franchise. “Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh” .

Sujoy Gosh has had quite the bumpy ride in bollywood. I guess he’s found his forte in the thriller & mystery genre.

This year he had also produced a film called “T3en” Directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, which didn’t fare well at the box office.

But he created a major buzz with his short film “Ahalya”, which impressed the audience & critics alike.

So Mr. Gosh is back to doing what he does best, & he doesn’t disappoint.

Kahaani 2:Durga Rani Singh has all the trappings for a thriller.

The first half will have arrested to your seats. The second half doesn’t do that , but provides for a fairly engaging viewing.

Mr. Gosh has etched all the characters beautifully. From the character of the beggar to the main protagonist, all of them are well-layered & with substance.

This film has a familiar setting like his previous films. But yet Mr.Gosh has delivered something new to the table.

Vidya Balan who has played the role of a mother is downright outstanding. She has delivered a stellar performance. You feel the same emotions as her as the movie progresses.

Arjun Rampal who has played the role of a cop, is pretty impactful. His performance is something to watch out for. He has really raised the bar. The choices of his films and the characters he has been playing lately is worth mentioning.

Jugal Hansraj who is there as well in the film, has made an interesting comeback. His performance has a nice range.

The film is more dark & creepier than its predecessor.

I don’t feel like revealing much about the plot of the film, but well there is a message in the film.

There are no doubts, about the certain flaws and the predictability in the film. Overall, it is a satisfying watch.

Making a thriller is not an easy task, and making the suspense last is even more tougher . Mr. Gosh has done a commendable job.

Have a thrilling weekend guys!

That’s exactly what happens.

The film creeps into your system. The curiosity, the excitement , the tension is mind boggling.

This film gives an unusual spin to the horror genre. The setting and the atmosphere of the film is terrifying.

Radek Ladczuk , the cinematographer, has used lights effectively, giving the perfect mood to the film.

The music by Jed Kurzal is effective.

The screenplay and the depiction of a single mother’s life makes it an engaging watch.

The entire film is told through the mother’s perspective.

It has a great ending. You will surely take something back from it.

It’s a masterpiece!

The Babadook

Film:Rock On 2

We bet all of you have seen Rock On . It was a successful debut for Farhan Akhtar. The Director Abhishek Kapoor made a solid come back. Arjun Rampal won a national award. Purab Kohli stole hearts with his charming peformance. Prachi Desai made a swift transition from TV to Films. Shankar-Ehasaan-Loy’s catchy compositions were hummed by almost everyone.

If you haven’t seen it yet, we recommend you watch it.

“Magik” is back again after a gap of 8 years. The sequel is helmed by Shujaat Saudagar, who is making is debut in bollywood.

The trailer is out. It looks intriguing. There is a more serious tone to the sequel. The chemistry between the characters seems is crackling. There are two new additions to the cast, Shraddha Kapoor & Shashank Arora.

It will be interesting to watch Shashank Arora, as he had really impressed the audience and the critics alike with his performances in “Titli” & indie film “Brahman Naman”.

Despite 8 years, the cast looks much younger.

Arjun Rampal looks dapper & Farhan Akhtar brings in the rawness.

The songs haven’t yet caught up much with the audience. But the songs are composed beautifully by the Trio, and we are sure they will slowly and steadily make an impact.

With a new director helming the film, we are curious to know how he is going to take the story and its characters forward.

Magik is back. But will it create the magic of its predecessor. Well, we will have to wait and watch.

A Twisted Thriller|The Invitation(2015)|Eu4ic Entertainments

The Invitation (2015) : Directed by- Karyn Kusama.

Cast: Logan Marsahll-Green, Tammy Blanchard & Michiel Huisman

When you get invited to a reunion party, its bound to be fun. You get to meet your old friends, you  talk about the good times & fond memories. You’re excited, and have that tingling feeling before you meet them. Once  you do, you update them about your current happenings and get to know theirs. Its relaxing, its stress busting, and its a break away from you’re regular monotonous life.invitation2-1024x576

Meeting you’re old friends every now and then is great thing!

There are drinks, games and lip smacking snacks to munch on. There’s a lot to catch up with. Its something which we all enjoy!

But “The Invitation” is not your regular reunion- dinner party.
Its twisted.

We all may have at some point had to meet and greet our ex at a party or at a certain occasion. It gets a little awkward, but then eventually you take it in your stride and let bygones be bygones, and wish them the very best for their new beginnings, and I’m sure they do the same as well.

What if you’re attending a dinner party at your former house hosted by your ex-wife and her current partner.invitation
As earlier mentioned, “The Invitation” is not your regular reunion -dinner party. Unsettling ambience, old wounds re-surfing.  Its everything which can go wrong at a dinner party.

Nothing seems to be what it looks like. There’s tension building in the air , but no one wants to talk about it. Its weird, but you put the fake mask on.

But what happens when this fake mask comes off?

“The Invitation” directed by Karyn Kusama, is a nail biting thriller. Its haunting. It slowly comes on to you and before you know it you are clinging on to something in fear.

Its smart & it surprises you at the places you least expect it to. Hats off to the Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi for writing a suspense- filled screenplay.

Karyn Kusama has delivered an intelligent thriller, and i guess its her best film till date.

Logan Marshall-Green as “Will” is jaw -dropping. He sticks to his character and his droopy eyes do all the talking.

Tammy Blanchard as “Eden” is magical. Her smile is something to watch out for.

Rest of the cast have played their characters well. Revealing any more details regarding the script would be a spoiler.

But i suggest you accept this invitation.

Celebrating 25 years of Thelma and Louise | Eu4ic Entertainments

Thelma and Louise, directed by Ridley Scott is considered to be one of the greatest films on women ever made.

The film, released 25 years ago, is best known as an icon of early-’90s feminism and took the audience by surprise as it broke the stereotype(s) about road movies and women.

A still from the movie.

The film ran on mouth publicity, and the element of crisp and swift screenplay made the film a classic. The film received humungous appreciation both from the audience and the critics for its unseen and unexpected humor and action elements involving two ordinary females of the 90’s engaged in an adventurous vacation resulting in uncalled fiasco.

As Callie Khouri, the film’s screenwriter, explained of that final scene: “They flew away, out of this world and into the mass unconscious. Women who are completely free from all the shackles that restrain them have no place in this world. The world is not big enough to support them.”

thelma 3

The film which was simple yet awakening, spoke about various treacherous problems faced by the women of that time or rather the women as a whole in a male dominated society.

The two characters played by Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) show us the freedom which is long anticipated but isn’t destined. They take off on a road trip  and soon become outlaws, managing to attract not only the attention of the local police but also bigger law agencies in an attempt of a self defence act, which proves to be costlier than the pains and misfortunes of a sexual assault.

thelma 4

The character portrayals, acting, direction and screenwriting together give us one of the most entertaintaing yet an eye opening action adventure road movie of all time.

Do watch it if you are looking for an unexpected vacation.
